Autumn is here, with its shorter, colder, wetter days... and the return of frizz! If you're struggling to manage them, especially in winter, don't panic. Here are a few tips on how to avoid frizz and tame your hair, even in wet weather.
Frizz is that rebellious little curl that escapes from your hair. It appears when your hair is dehydrated and the air is too humid. Hair scales absorb moisture from the air, and there you have it. All hair types can get frizz, but it's more common on curly, wavy and frizzy hair, because it's more porous and needs more moisture. So how can you avoid frizz (especially at the moment)?
Rinse hair with cold water
Remember to rinse your hair with lukewarm or cold water: much of your frizz will not appear, as the scales of your hair will already begin to close on contact with the cold. Don't hesitate to blot your wet hair instead of rubbing it. Scrubbing causes friction, which encourages frizz. Avoid wrapping your hair in a towel, as many do. It's best to remove excess water by gently blotting your hair.
Moisturizing skin care
Use a moisturizing hair care product and complete your routine with a hair oil to help lock in moisture. Vegetable oils can nourish hair, but also prevent moisture from escaping too quickly from the hair fiber. Broccoli oil, for example, is an excellent natural alternative to the silicone found in hair products.
Avoid friction
Think about using rubber bands and a silk pillowcase to avoid creating friction between strands of hair. This will limit the appearance of frizz when you wake up in the morning.
Accept them!
Finally, it's important to accept them. It may not be obvious, but accept that your hair isn't perfect. And that's okay! Especially if you tend to have curly or frizzy hair, you can't fight your hair's nature either. So, if you follow the small steps listed above, you'll limit frizz and see a clear improvement in your hair, but some stubborn ones will still remain on your head.
